Our Water vs. Our Life

What is happening to our waters?  Help protect our Indian River Lagoon, ocean and other waterways from harmful pollutants so we all can enjoy kayaking, fishing, boating, surfing, and swimming in clean water. Inform your legislators of your position regarding the following bills that involve the health of our waters.

  1. SUPPORTSB 1538/HB 423(Stewart/Cross)Implementation of the Recommendations of the Blue-Green Algae Task Force.
  2. SUPPORT SB 1632/HB 1379(BrodeurSteel): Environmental ProtectionProhibits new On-Site Septic systems in IRL watershed.
  3. SUPPORTHB 1425 (Cross) Onsite Sewage Treatment and Disposal System Inspections
  4. SUPPORTSB 172/HB 177 (Berman/Gossett-Seidman): Safe Waterways Act to Protect swimmers from polluted waters.
  5. SUPPORTSB 880/HB 1405 (Brodeur): Biosolids: Restricts Spreading biosolids within IRL subwatershed.
  6. SUPPORTSB 1686/HB 1489 (Wright/Altman)Brevard Barrier Island Area Protection Act Would: Protect the Brevard South Shore barrier island.
  7. OPPOSESB 1240/HB 1197 (Burgess): Land and Water Management
  8. OPPOSEHB 359/SB 540: Local Government Comprehensive Plans

The Surfrider Space Coast chapter volunteers are working hard to support clean water.  Our local Ocean Friendly Restaurant, The Tiny Turtle in Cocoa Beach has been recognized by the Surfrider Foundation for reducing single-use plastics and making small choices for our ocean. Husband and Wife duo, Chef Moises and Kelly Lieneke have created a unique restaurant experience that protects the ocean and sea life while giving back to the community. On April 1st, our chapter volunteers and the City of Cocoa Beach community kayaked out to the North Thousand Islands and collected over 90 pounds of debris including four automobile tires. Beach cleanups are monthly at different locations. Our next cleanup is on Saturday, April 22nd at 8:30 a.m., Sebastian Inlet Surf & Sport Shop. Join us for clean water A1A Highway & Beach Cleanup
