6:30 Call to order – Kris Baker, Chair and hand out edible straws
Past Events Recap
6/24 Surfing for Autism at Alan Shepard Park in Cocoa Beach. John reported a great turnout and fun event for all.
7/8 Wave of Emotion Movie at Surfside Playhouse 5-8:30, John reported Dr Diane’s film was a success among the surf community--a sold-out event. There was happy hour provided by the playhouse. The Aquanuts played great surfing music while many enjoyed snacks and a nice cold drink.
EC/Program/Campaign Reports
- Chair Report: Kris Baker reported the news from the July's Florida Regional online meeting. There is a 5 year plan approved by the USA President Biden to include new oil leases in the Gulf of Mexio. A National petition will be posted on Surfrider websites and social media for voter response (against the new leases).
-Florida Surfrider conference will be 11/3-4 in Palm Beach this year. Two rooms will be provided for our chapter. Details later.
-Tallassee day will be Jan 22 & 23, training on 22. Details later.
-Surf Expo in Orlando 9/8-9. Details later.
-EC meeting this weekend to plan rest of year
-There is a grant the Surfrider has pointed in our direction, that we will be collaborating with City of Indialantic
-Our chapter have been chosen as beneficiary for Space Coast Classic run in April 13, 2024 which is a 15K & 2-mile run event. This is the 10th year. More information soon.
-Collaborate with other groups for beach clean up numbers and involvement.
- Secretary Report: Fran absent-no report.
- Treasurer Report: Chris absent-report.
- Blue Water Task Force BWTF: Kris Ballard Park is still highly contaminated. We now have extension poles for glass bottle sampling without getting in the water! Thank you, Tim, for making them!
- Volunteer Coordinator: Christine is continuing to master the volunteer software programs.
- Social Media Chair – Kelly-no report
- Ocean Friendly Gardens– Bill absent.
- Ocean Friendly Restaurants -Texas Roadhouse interested in learning about the program.
- Beach Bucket Foundation – Andy went on a road trip around Florida picking up trash along our coasts. Check him out on his Facebook page.

Updated/New Business
- Working with Kelly, owner of the Tiny turtle, to highlight & motivate other restaurants to be OFR
- Elisabeth with Tobacco Free Brevard attended. She is looking forward to partnering.
- What are you interested in getting involved with?
- Sandra Sullivan expressed her concern about the reef protection in Satellite. After reviewing the information, our chapter is not supporting her cause. It was decided that the permits were correct and followed by the US Army Corp Engineers regarding the Midreach project.
