40 Surfrider volunteers standing on the steps of the Florida State Capitol

01.26.24

2024 Florida Healthy Beaches Day

On January 23, our Vice Chair Nina Hunt, along with 40 other Surfrider volunteers across the state of Florida, went to The Capitol in Tallahassee to advocate for the reduction of plastic pollution, clean waters, and natural solutions to climate change.

The Space Coast, Key West, and Miami Surfrider chapters joined together and spoke with 6 different state Representatives and Senators about different bills moving through the house & senate that would support the environment & ocean. All conversations were productive, and the group left feeling heard & supported on the issues presented.

From 9 am to 3 pm, this team met with the below Senators & Representatives throughout the day:

Representative Jim Mooney, Capitol 212
Senator Tina Polsky, Senate 220
Representative Tyler Sirois, House 303 (Brevard rep!)
Senator Ana Maria Rodriguez, Senate 309
Senator Lori Berman, Senate 216
Representative Christine Hunschofsky, Capitol 329

To learn more about this trip, what Surfrider is doing to help the environment, and how you can get involved, make sure to attend our monthly meetings on the 3rd Thursday of every month!
