Use of Phosphogypsum for Roads

Written by Fran Buchness | Aug 23, 2023 7:18:06 PM
Governor DeSantis has passed a bill to review the use of phosphogypsum on Florida roads.   We are asking you to encourage Governor DeSantis to veto HB1191 Phosphogypsum in Roads. Despite outcry from Surfrider and environmental organizations across the state, this law went into effect on July 1 and Surfrider Florida region is working to prevent any phosphogypsum from being used in road construction in Florida and we are asking for your help.

At the end of August, Surfrider's Florida regional policy advocate will be sharing a sign-on letter and form for Florida local and state elected officials to the EPA clearly stating their opposition of phosphogypsum in road use in their community, district, and municipality. Florida chapters soon will receive social media resources to educate members and followers and reach out to local electees to sign-on, i.e., county commissioners, city, village or town council members, and school boards.
