Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

1. Call to Order
Board Chair Nina Hunt called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM.
2. Icebreaker
Attendees paired up to share:
- If their mood were an ocean forecast (e.g., glassy and calm, choppy with a rip current, flat but sunny)
3. Guest Speaker Presentation
Speaker: Victoria “Tori” Wilcock
Conservation Restoration Coordinator, Restore Our Shores – Brevard Zoo / East Coast Zoological Foundation
Tori presented on Restore Our Shores, a community-driven initiative focused on restoring the Indian River Lagoon (IRL) in response to significant population growth (~264% over the past 50 years) and its environmental impact.
Key Highlights:
- Field-based conservation efforts focused on both habitat restoration and wildlife support, including: manatees, grasshopper sparrows, frosted flatwood salamanders, Perdido Key beach mice, and pollinators/shorebirds
- Core restoration strategies: living shorelines and reef construction, oyster and clam gardening, seagrass and mangrove planting, and buffer zones to reduce runoff and improve water quality
Tori emphasized the importance of community involvement and encouraged attendees to participate in volunteer opportunities to support ongoing restoration work.

- March 28 – A1A Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup: 8:30–10:30 AM @ Spessard Holland South Beach Park
- April 15 – General Meeting @ Tiny Turtle: 6:30–8:00 PM | Speaker: Bill (Ocean Friendly Gardens)
- April 24 – Earth Day Planting: ~9:00–11:00 AM @ William Dewey Park, Indialantic (near US-192 & US-1)
- April 25 – Earth Day Beach Cleanup + Surf Day: 8:30–10:30 AM @ Paradise Beach, Indialantic | In partnership with Brevard Girls Club and Canaveral Surf (surf lessons available, paid)
5. Open Positions
The chapter is actively recruiting for the following volunteer leadership roles:
- Vice Chair
- Ocean-Friendly Restaurants (OFR) Co-Chair / Support Lead (10–15 hrs/month) – supports restaurant outreach, program growth, media coordination, and event representation
- Fundraising Chair (10–15+ hrs/month) – leads sponsorships, partnerships, grant opportunities, and fundraising strategy
These roles are ideal for members passionate about ocean conservation and community impact.
6. Closing Remarks
Nina Hunt thanked attendees for their time and continued involvement. Special thanks to Intracoastal Brewing Company for hosting. Attendees were encouraged to tip their servers generously and stay to connect after the meeting.
