Board of Directors Meeting Minutes
Date: April 16, 2025
Time: 6:30 – 8:00 PM
Location: Intracoastal Brewing Company
Board Chair Nina Hunt called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM.
Nina kicked things off with a fun icebreaker. Each attendee introduced themselves and was prompted to share a random fun fact or hobby that others wouldn’t guess about them.
Speaker: Jenny Ryan, Operations and Development Coordinator, Florida Wildflower Foundation
Jenny delivered an engaging and informative presentation on the ecological and cultural importance of wildflowers, highlighting how they:
Provide food and habitat for pollinators, birds, and wildlife
Improve water quality, reduce erosion, and aid in carbon sequestration
Promote ecotourism and recreational opportunities
Add natural beauty and support civic pride
Programs Highlighted:
Planting & Conservation: 35 counties and 3 towns have adopted native wildflower resolutions.
Grants:
Seedlings for Schools (K–12 education)
Viva Florida (public beautification, including Indialantic swale)
Seeds of Knowledge (library-focused)
Research: Over $1M invested in funding for graduate-level horticulture and native plant research.

Open Roles: Actively recruiting a Vice Chair and Events Coordinator—members were encouraged to inquire.

Chris and Janita for consistently supporting events and beach cleanups.
April 22 – Earth Day Fair
Time: 5–7 PM
Location: Aquarina, Melbourne Beach
Surfrider will host a booth to promote OFG, OFR, and private beach cleanups with flyers, stickers, and engagement materials.
April 25 – Earth Day Swale Planting
Time: 9:30 AM
Location: 8th Avenue, Indialantic, FL 32903 (west of A1A)
Supported by: $5K Florida Wildflower License Plate Grant + Town of Indialantic Sustainability Committee (up to $1250)
What to bring: Garden tools, gloves, water, rakes, shovels
Parking: Near Lily Park or side streets
No May Meeting
Reminder: There will be no monthly meeting in May.
Instead, join us Saturday, May 17 for Dragon Boat Racing!
Limited to 16 participants.
