The Blue Water Task Force (BWTF) program provides critical water quality information to protect public health at our beaches. Our chapter with Marine Resources Council (MRC) tests our waters for bacteria levels to raise awareness of our local pollution problems and to bring together communities to implement solutions. This collaborative program provides the public with year-round water quality information at ocean and intracoastal recreational locations.
Last fall, our chapter and MRC presented water quality data to the FL Department of Environmental Protection Agency to illustrate some consistent pollution problems. In response to this data, the State has initiated a source tracking investigation in the Turkey Creek watershed to include testing a suite of parameters such as human/dog/ruminant/bird waste, chemicals excreted through pharmaceutical waste, pesticides, and herbicides.
